There are two walk-in visitor centers in Staunton. Downtown, the Staunton Visitors Center, 35 S. New St., at Johnson Street (tel. 540/332-3971), provides information including free maps and walking-tour brochures to the historic district. It's open daily 9am to 6pm from April through December, to 5pm January through March.
At the Frontier Culture Museum, on U.S. 250 west of Exit 222 of I-81, the Staunton/Augusta County Travel Information Center, P.O. Box 810, Staunton, VA 24404 (tel. 800/332-5219 or 540/332-3972), is open daily from 9am to 5pm except New Year's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Staunton is at the junctions of I-64 and I-81 and U.S. 11 and U.S. 250. Amtrak trains serve Staunton's station at 1 Middlebrook Ave. (tel. 800/872-7245).
The free Downtown Staunton Trolley runs every 25 minutes Monday to Saturday from 10am to 10pm, passing all the key sights. Riding it all the way around will give you an informative 25-minute tour of the town. Board at the Staunton Visitors Center , which has route maps. Some other points of interest nearby are:
